How much dairy do you need?
Summer is sure flying by! I hope you’ve been having fun and staying cool with refreshing drinks and snacks from Roberts Dairy. One of the reasons that doing this Moo Tour is so important to me is that most Americans are eating only half of their daily recommended servings of dairy! That’s why I’m out there telling families to get three daily servings of milk, cheese or yogurt for stronger bones and better bodies. The reason it’s so important is that dairy provides nine essential nutrients, including calcium, potassium, phosphorus, protein, vitamins A, D and B12, riboflavin, and niacin (niacin equivalents).
One of the questions I get asked most often while on the road is, “What exactly makes up a serving of dairy?” Here’s a simple guide that I like to share with folks:
- Milk: 1 serving is 8-oz. (1 cup)
- Cheese (natural e.g., Cheddar, Mozzarella): 1 serving is 1 – 1.5 oz. of cheese (about the size of 3 – 4 cheese cubes)
- Yogurt: 1 serving is one 6 or 8-oz. container of yogurt
Well, I guess that’s all for now. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by to see me this summer. And don’t forget to stay stocked up on dairy!
XOXO
