Ingredients
3/4 cup Roberts Butter
2 cups sugar
2 Roberts Eggs
2 1/2 cups flour, sifted
1/2 cup cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup Roberts Buttermilk
1 cup boiling water
1 cup chopped black walnuts, optional
Preparation
Cream together butter and sugar; beat in eggs, 1 at a time, blending well after each addition. Sift together dry ingredients; add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Stir in boiling water and, if desired, chopped walnuts, mixing thoroughly. Pour batter into a buttered and floured 9 x 13 x 2 inch baking pan or 2-9 inch round baking pans. Bake at 375° for 40 to 45 minutes for loaf pan and 30 to 35 minutes for round pans, or until a wooden pick inserted in center tests clean. Cool; frost as desired.
Yield: 1-9 x 13 inch loaf cake or 2-9 inch cake layers
