Ingredients
4 pounds tomatoes, peeled
1 pound apples, cored and chopped
3 onions, chopped fine
2 cups vinegar
2 tablespoons salt
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup seedless raisins
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
Hot Tomato Chutney
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon cloves
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon allspice
2 teaspoons dry mustard
Preparation
Chop tomatoes; add apples and onion. Add remaining ingredients and cook until the chutney is thick and clear, stirring occasionally. Pour into hot sterilized jars and seal.
Yield: 5 pints
Notes:
If a hotter, more highly flavored chutney is desired, add Hot Tomato Chutney ingredients.
